Budapest to Amsterdam

It’s no secret that Paul & I love cruising, but we’ve never taken a “river” cruise before (other than our Grand Canyon rafting trips).

This year we decided to take a Viking River Cruise through 5 countries in Europe, on the Danube & Rhine Rivers with our traveling buddies, Mike & Vicky Macias. We started in Budapest, Hungary; then made our way to Brataslava, Slovakia; Vienna, Austria; through the Black Forest & the Bavarian countryside, to Melk, Passau, Regensburg, Nuremberg, Bamberg, Wurzburg, Rothenburg, Wertheim, Koblenz, & Cologne in Germany; & finally Kinderdijk & Amsterdam in the Nederlands on a 15 day adventure.

It was exciting to see such historic cities, but I loved the scenic & serene views along the quaint countryside peppered with historic castles & cathedrals nestled among the beauty of the fall color trees!

Not surprising, I took a few photos. Here are some of my favorites…

LOVED the umbrellas hanging all over this little village!

Another highlight of our trip was meeting up with our friend Caroline Roeder in Cologne! Caroline was a foreign exchange student that stayed with our niece, Rebecca Brown, one year & we got to know her when she came to visit. We got to meet her mother & they gave us a wonderful tour of their historic city.

There further north we went, the colder it got! Kinderjik was miserably cold! But love the  windmills!

We ended our cruise in Amsterdam.  We stayed in an Air B&B apartment right on one of the canal streets.

I was fascinated by all the crooked buildings!

Bikes are everywhere & Vicky couldn't keep Mikey off of them!

We explored the city & visited the Anne Frank Museum. Paul had to leave early to attend a family friend's funeral so we gave his ticket to a "new friend" we met from New York...

Amsterdam has some "unique" coffee shops...

The Cheese Museum was a surprise treat for us. We learned all about how different cheeses were made & how to use the different knives to cut the cheese! So much fun with these crazy friends! We love our Vicky adventures!

Love the old castles. So majestic. And is it just me or does Caroline actually look a little like Rebecca?
