Helping Hands Help the Needy and Improve Communities - "Service to others is an important characteristic of the followers of Jesus Christ. Mormon Helping Hands provides organized opportunities for Church members to give their time and talents to bless those in need. It also gives members the opportunity to beautify city streets, parks, schools, and recreational areas and to serve in other ways, showing that the Church is a friend to the community."
Every year, our church sets aside a day for organized community service. It allows communities the manpower to get substantial projects completed & encourages our members to get involved in their communities. We have also been encouraged to seek opportunities to serve throughout the year by searching justserve.org for specific needs in our area. This year's project for our Community Day of Service was super fun! We gathered at George F Duffy Park in Placerville, CA to plant trees & plants & add some tan bark to beautiful the Children's Tot-Lot. It was heart warming to see so many members & friends show up to help!
The Upper Room is a local "soup kitchen" that offers meals 24/7 to anyone who would like to come. Many of the patrons are homeless or transient. They serve individuals as well as families. Several local businesses & churches pitch in to provide these meals. We have an opportunity to help out quarterly. We prepare a lot of food so the patrons can enjoy a hot, healthy meal. We even pack "lunches to go" for anyone who wants to take a meal with them, too. "When we're helping, we're happy!" Find out more HERE.
President Monson said, "The needs of others are ever present, & each of us can do something to help someone."
Galatians 5:13 - By love serve one another.
