2016 Family Olympics - Day 1

With the 2016 Rio Olympics about to start, we thought it would be fun to have our own Family Olympics this year...so - - - Let the Games Begin!

Opening Ceremony - We gathered for a patriotic parade of athletes - complete with a flag raising, National Anthem, & flag salute.

Then we had a crepe paper challenge to see who could unravel their roll the fastest by tossing them into the air with the Olympic Fanfare playing in the background...we have a few competitive people in our family!

Individual Competition:
We had the adults & older cousins help us with some individual events. We gave each cousin a “punch card” to help them keep track of their events/times/scores, etc. & asked them to try every event. We also asked those running each event to watch for any “noteworthy or exceptional skill or behavior” to take into consideration for awards later.

Miniature Golf Course…

Hoola Hoops & Pogo Sticks…

Ladder Ball…

Horse Shoes…

Bebe Guns was a popular event

Archery was equally popular

Rock Climbing…

Uncle Rick was a trooper! He worked so hard in the heat of the summer, without shade, helping each kid try to improve their timed score – some tried multiple times!

Meanwhile, G’pa kept the littles busy with train rides all over the property! Our friend, Tom Lucas, built this train for his nieces & nephews & offered it for our G’kids to enjoy. G’pa spent most of the morning giving rides all over the property...it was a HUGE HIT!

Paul always teases the kids about his “World Famous Waffles” or his “World Famous Pancakes”…or World Famous "Whatever” so many of them refer to us as their “World Famous Parents/Grandparents”… so we got these T-shirts to prove it!

We got some of those paint-filled water balloons, thinking that they would splatter nicely on our new white shirts – but they did not. The color was not as vibrant as we had hoped & they are “water soluble” so they don’t stain things. Not all great ideas work out the way you had planned…but they kids still had fun & now we can add “World Famous Targets” to the list!

We wanted to make sure the kids had plenty of time to play in the water so we took turns kayaking & water sliding & Unka Ty had the kids busting water balloons with a baseball bat…

After dinner Talent Share is always a hit. This year did NOT disappoint! We have some budding performers with some serious talents, tricks, skits, & a plenty of personality! Our talent shares seem to always end up in a dance party & G'pa showed his appreciation by throwing candy at all the talent...

We ended the day with S’mores - not to mention a lot of tired critters…& parents!

That's A LOT for Day 1, but we had more fun planned for there next day!
