SURVIVOR - Day 1

This year's family reunion theme is taken from the SURVIVOR TV Show. Aunt Cindi volunteered to help come up with the games/activities/challenges & she did a fantastic job, eliminating a lot of the stress I feel when planning this event.  Aunt Jill designed the T-shirt logo...

Setting the stage for our "island"...

We painted small rocks blue & green & placed them inside a little bag. One by one each person chose a colored rock that determined which team they were on...

They then met with their teams to get a colored tie to wear as a headband/armband to identify their team, choose a team name, & decorate their team banner...

Team Blue Jays & Team Hulk!

Anxiously awaiting instructions for our first challenge - the Pool Noodle Obstacle Course...

The Ring Toss - toss 3 pool noodle rings onto the pool noodle stake before running to the next obstacle...

The Agility Rings - run by placing a foot inside each pool noodle ring...

The Soccer Drill - kick the soccer ball around each pool noodle stake...

The Ground Crawl - crawl through each pool noodle arch...

The Football Toss - toss 2 footballs through the rings before crawling under the rings & running back to tag the next teammate...

The first team to finish wins...in theory.  But we all win when everyone has a great time!

Aunt Gina & her husband, Christian (or Uncle Scar as he calls himself), took the challenge to a whole new level & generated a great spirit of competition - not to mention entertainment as everyone observed their "no holding back" mentality! Such a great lesson in sportsmanship!

Time for lunch! I think they need a "time out!"

After lunch we let the kids have a little water balloon fun with us as the targets! I love how the cameras all disappeared by the time the big kids got their turn - there's no evidence of their fun but I can assure you they got us pretty good.  FYI - water balloons hurt & create bruises.  I had a black eye for a couple of days afterwards.

Next Team Challenge was to see how many balls you can get in your bucket WITHOUT using your hands...it was interesting to see the kids try to trap the ball with their feet & jump, trying to get the balls to land in their bucket. Then all of a sudden, Roman quietly just sits on the ground & starts easily lifting the balls with his feet into the bucket...genius little problem solver!  Didn't take long for others to catch on...

Uncle Rick was a good sport & took the bigger kids on a Scavenger Hunt Challenge.  There were specific clues & treasures hidden throughout the property & the teams had to trade items until they acquired all the items needed for "survival."

We kept the littles busy with these ice blocks - using toothbrushes & spoons to hammer away at the ice to dislodge their treasures...

This gave us time to set up our Slip n Slide Kickball Game.  One team pitches the ball to the other team who kicks it & slides to each base, which happens to be a kiddie pool. The bases were a popular place to be on this HOT day!  So much fun!

After dinner we held our annual Talent Share.  We are a talented group! Musicians, dancers, tumblers, artists, & tricks...we've got it all! It's fun to watch the kids perform for each other as they share their talents, they are learning to be a good audience & to build their confidence.

We all "survived" Day 1 & are looking forward to more family fun on Day 2!
