In Memorium

Johnnie Lou Snider Carter (May 29,1927 - May 28,2008) aka "Grandmommy" will be burried tomorrow in Memphis, TN. She is a lovely lady, a true Southern Belle. She raised three rowdy boys; Jeffrey Lynn (1954-1989), Winston Timothy, & Adam Anthony. These boys gave her 12 terrific grandchildren & those grandchildren gave her 6 beautiful great grandchildren with three more due any moment...perhaps she is meeting them now & encouraging them as they prepare to come to this earth.

I will remember her as a strong woman of faith. She has a giant testimony of the Gospel & was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked as a secretary for the Quaker Oats Company before she retired to be a full-time stay at home mom. She was a "Den Mother" for all of her boys & was proud that they are all Eagle Scouts & especially proud that they all served full-time missions for the Church. She loved to dance & she enjoyed being a homemaker; she made most of her own clothes, was an expert gardener, & loved to can her own food storage.

She always wanted to be a nurse but her many attempts at going back to school to get a nursing degree were interrupted by the demands of life. She cared for her aging mother who suffered from a brain tumor, helped her oldest son (& me & our little family) through the deteriorating affects of brain cancer, & helped her husband (Winston Elbert Carter 1927-1996) fight his own battle against colon cancer. She knew great loss, yet her faith & knowledge of the Plan of Salvation sustained her. She loved the Temple & the peace she felt inside its holy walls.

She passed away in her sleep - they said she was found with a smile on her face...no doubt, she was greeted by dear loved ones as she passed through the veil, including our Savior. "God be with you 'till we meet again..." Our love goes out to all of you in Memphis this weekend - Cindi & Terri are due any time now & not able to attend the services, so I'm on "baby watch" waiting to help out when needed.

Take care, love to you all, Aunt Squirley
