2011 October General Conference

Before I finish the rest of our super September adventures, I need to pause & acknowledge the outstanding conference weekend we just enjoyed.

Twice a year we get to hear marvelous counsel from the leaders of our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We also have an annual General Relief Society Broadcast that speaks specifically to women's issues. They are inspiring & uplifting messages that increase my faith & give me hope for the future. Your can read more here.

I like to take notes while I listen to the words of the prophets. These are some of the things I heard (my favorites are bold)…

Visiting Teaching is a pattern of discipleship.

Charity is a state of the heart.

Cleave unto covenants & we will find joy & protection.

Forget Me Nots – forget not to be patient with yourself – forget not the difference between a good sacrifice & a foolish sacrifice – forget not to be happy NOW – forget not the “why” of the gospel – forget not that the Lord loves you!

Scriptures are pure truth, packets of light, & stalwart friends.

Seek not to declare my word but 1st seek to obtain it.

We need the divine help that comes from the Holy Spirit through personal revelation.

Those who are lost often don’t realize they are lost.

The voice of the Spirit comes as a feeling, not as a sound.

Compared to God, man is nothing, yet we are everything to Him.

Cherish your ancestors…..there is no age limit, we can ALL do family history.

We believe in families, we believe in children.

Motherhood is not a hobby it is a calling – it is what God gave you time for.

Families are central to God’s eternal plan of happiness.

Let us be as quick to kneel as we are to text.

Being busy should also mean being productive…..we must use are time for things that matter most – things of God matter most.

It’s better to look up.

Most of what we worry about isn’t of eternal significance.

We must look up & step up…in doing so we will cheer up.

Repentance is a divine gift…without repentance there is no progress in life.

We must be bold in our declaration of Jesus Christ.

Perfect love casteth out fear.

We often pray for patience but we want it now!

Let us be kinder to one another & even kinder to ourselves.

One Lord, one faith, one baptism.

The best way to raise your daughter is to love her mother.

…help us lead the world to a return to virtue.

Your personal purity will give you power.

It is essential that we reject anything that does not meet our standards.

Obedience is key to the blessings of the covenant.

Do we live in Zion with a 2nd home in Babylon?

The Holy Ghost is the “real” teacher of all truth.

Missionaries carry a message of love, hope, & faith…..they are a treasure to this church.

Decisions determine destiny.

The atonement provides lifeboats for everyone.

I always look forward to these conferences. I am reminded that I am loved by a Heavenly Father who knows me by name & my desire to do what is right is always strengthened.
